[flexcoders] is there a way to get the local date format

is there any utility function in Flex to give me the local machine setting for 
date format 
(mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy, for example)?

looked up Date, DateUtils, Locale,... and could not find anything that gives me 
that sort of 
info.
