Speaking of Linux support, my FlexBuilder alpha just told me I have 20 days left before the trial expires. At this time, there does not seem to be a new alpha or beta trial, nor any way to actually purchase a Linux version of FlexBuilder. Is this going to change in the next couple of weeks? If not, how can I go about renewing my alpha 2 trial?

Although I do like that Adobe is keeping with the Eclipse framework because this allows me to add the plugin only to my current Eclipse build and incorporate the functionality and Flex into my existing projects. I also use Gentoo has my one-and-only and I have used the Builder plugin and SDK for a while now. I have to build everything myself from scratch and sometimes I have to use the command-line (which really is no big deal for me, but a usability requirement for others) to compile the projects (mxmlc). I all to well understand that companies well not put as much effort into development for alternative platforms such as GNU/Linux, but the issue I have is that you are basically breaking away from the Eclipse mindset of having a cross-platform, integrated development environment by adding all of the extraneous OS specific code. If this plugin was developed using existing Eclipse plugin standards from the get go, I think there would be little issue with getting all of this to run on any platform which supports Java. Silverlight requires .Net, Windows, Visual Studio, and a bunch of cash - -- I only hope Adobe continues on their path of supporting all platforms as much as possible. This not only means supporting them with Alpha releases and promises but remembering that this support in the development stages of the product. This especially holds true internationally as alternative operating systems are taking off more so than the US because of cost, privacy, and economical concerns.
