I had a problem one time where I'd installed the latest Flash player, which was in beta at the time and then uninstalled it, but the "official" release would not install no matter what I did. I have searched through my archives and can't find the info that Matt Chotin gave me to fix this...I think I accidently deleted it, but you might be seeing something like the same problem.
