I assume that's per month--that works out to $54,000/year. San Francisco is
expensive, and $54K doesn't go far. At best, you'll be able to afford a 1-br
apartment within walking distance of BART. It's on the low end of a livable
salary. You'd be sitting pretty in Tulsa, but counting your pennies in San
Francisco.

Is it enough? It depends--does it include benefits (vacation, health
insurance)? If not, it sounds low to me. If it includes benefits, it might
be ok.

There are a lot of things that go into figuring your value to a company. You
mentioned experience, which is a bit on the thin side. How about education?
If you have a Master's in Computer Science from Stanford, that's low. If you
have a high school diploma, that's not bad. If you have a 2-year degree from
a technical or community college, it sounds about right.

Factor in your other work experience. If you have 2 years of Flash, but 10
years of C++ or Java, that makes you worth a lot more. How many jobs have
you held? How long did you stay on them? Do you have a code portfolio?

Does the company offer a reasonable upward path? When you have 5 years of
Flash/Flex, will you be making $80-90K, or will you have to jump to a
another company?

Sorry if there are more questions than answers here, but there are a lot of
variables. $54K might be a good deal for you--it's not an insult, at least.
The rest depends on where you're coming from.

Cordially,

Kerry Thompson
