BTW, if you want to add an Alert via MXML just do this: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:controls="mx.controls.*"> <controls:Alert /> </mx:Application>
Alert isn't included in the manifest XML file so the compiler doesn't know that it's in the "http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" namespace, but if you explicitly reference the package that contains Alert you can do it just fine.
