I am sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. DataGrid does indeed not have a creation policy.
I am not sure which event will help you here. When I have some more time, I will see if I can find out. There is some time between setting the dataprovider and the columns having the correct width. You could try the change event, but I am not sure if that is of any help.
