Forgive the lateness of my response, but thanks all, I solved my problem, I didn't need to do item editing inside the datagrid at all, I simply needed to just be able to edit an item. I simply made a state of the window which contains a form populated with the necessary information. But what I read so far gave me some great insight into using the datagrid including how to manipulate individual columns, (it didn't occur to me to give the columns an id).
