Sorry, I couldn't resist. It appears that to get a DateTimeAxis to display labels correctly for weekly data, I have to explicitly set the dataUnits and labelUnits to "week" rather than let it figure things out for itself. The same is not true for days or months. Just sharing/wondering if anyone else has run into this.
