I might try:
 
restirct="^" + String.fromCharCode(13);
 
Then I might try subclassing and setting multiline=false in the internal
textField.
 
Finally, I would try capturing the textInput event on the internal
textField and calling preventDefault() on it.
 
Then, submit a mini-example and we'll dig deeper.

and also like this:

And neither worked :(
