I really don't have a proper understand of what u really need to do(and why u need it), but if my guess is correct what you just want is to access the rowHeight of some rows.
use this (to get the height of the currently selected row) DataGrid.indexToItemRenderer(DataGrid.selectedIndex).height You could also cast the DataGrid.indexToItemRenderer(index) result to your custom item renderer and access its properties.
