[flexcomponents] Row effects for a DataGrid?

I have the need to have a row in a datagrid "flash" (background color 
goes from white-to-black-to-white etc...) based on the underlying data 
contents. My initial thought was to extend the DataGrid to allow for a 
rowBackgroundColor function (which I've used in the past), and hooking 
up a Timer class instance for the flash "interval", but is there an 
easier way?
