There are optimizations done in different versions of PowerSDR and those changes are mostly stored in the database as new or different default operating parameters. Also there could be differences in DSP settings (buffer sizes, NR/ALC/ANF, windowing parameters, etc) that are different between the two versions.
The only way to start to figure this out is to "diff" the two database files and see what is different. There are many free software tools out there that will do this as programmers regularly use them. This is also a perfect example why it is a best practice to *always* allow a new version of PowerSDR to create a new database so that you ensure that you are getting all of the new default DB parameters that the developers have changed between PowerSDR versions. This is really a must between major versions changes, like the upcoming 1.18.6 to 2.x upgrade. http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50088.aspx If you do need to import data from a previous database, you should selectively import the data you need, rather than doing a global import using the K9DUR Data Import Utility. It is the safest way to move data between two different versions of PowerSDR. http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50327.aspx About the only things I ever import from a previous database are the TX profiles. I can set up the other parameters in about 5 minutes. -Tim ----- W4TME -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mike Davis Sent: Tuesday, July 20, 2010 8:26 AM To: Flexedge Subject: [FlexEdge] CPU usage It may seem a daft question to some but it is puzzling me. I am using a 2.2 gigahertz AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual core machine. Motherboard is an Asus M2N4 SLI, graphics is ATI HD 4300/4500, 3 gig of RAM and no paging file Operating system is Windows XP home with service pack 3 installed. I am using power sdr version 2.00 and the database file is not imported from any earlier version of power sdr but native to version 2.00. Having reset the database prior to doing a calibration routine, I noticed that the cpu usage had dropped significantly down to between 10% and 20 %. I tried the same operation modes, ie: LSB on 80 metres, CPDR set to on, same sample rate and priority, panadapter display average enabled, need I go on? When I imported the database that was saved to the desktop during the database reset, the cpu usage goes back up to between 30% and 40% which was the case before the reset. Am I missing something or is this normal? Any ideas anybody? The operation is fine but it would be nice to know the likely reason for this as this would give less overhead when running other programs via VAC, ie: Easypal etc. Thanks in advance, Mike, g8kmr. _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
