Why doesn't flex have a export version that has "opened up" firmware?.
I don't get it..
It's the users responsibility to not do illegal things with the radio..

This feature is currently being considered for the FLEX-5000. It is US110. A "US" is a
"user story" but can be thought of in one respect as a feature request.

Subject: [FlexEdge] Transmitting bandwidth again
Hi to the group,
No I'm not having a go at flex's main TX
output philosophy again. Well not quite. While waiting to get upgraded to
the V/U module I've been playing with transvertors. These were designed with
4 switched crystals to give 432 - 440 coverage. I wanted to get down to
431.125 to access the input of local repeater. I tried and of course I
bounced, because to do that the transvertor output had to Tx on a 27MHz
frequency ! . Now on UHF a total band width of 28 to 29.7MHz ie 1.7MHz is a
little silly especially given that most ( sorry all ) of our 70cms
repeaters in South Africa operate on a 7.6MHz split. So the question is Flex
is this. How low in output power to they have to go in order not to have the
US authorities breathing down their necks if a transvertor output is allowed
to have a sensible band width ? if it is possible then I would like to vote
for at least a 10MHz bandwidth. My own personal requirement would be to be
able to Tx via the transvertor from 26Mhz through to at least 36Mhz (say
40Mhz).
I know that the 1500 is supposed to be flex's transvertor target rig. But
hey, if all you've got is 5000A then that's the rig you want to use.
I wonder what our serious micro wave flexer's do and what they would like ?
I have this love / hate relationship with my 5000, most of the time the wife
is jealous of the darned thing since it absorbs so much of my time. But it
frustrates me as well. It does so much for me why can't it do everything
(from a radio ham point of view I meant !! )
Regards to all
