Fred, Since you can't figure out to make it work. I'll give you a $100.00 for
the 1500 and the laptop.

Get rid of the soundcard chips, and instead use commercial quality A/D D/A's
and run low latency Ethernet (UDP Maybe?) to the PC/PC's (that's a thought!).
Do DSP on a processor on the radio, have PSDR act as a display rather than the
decoder. Do it right.
Or, "Don't buy one then?" That's sure as hell constructive. Not too useful
for me now...
I'm done... there isn't really anything else to say, is there?

Fred,
You, as everyone else on this list are entitled to express their
opinions whether they are perceived as good, bad or indifferent. Even
the ones who disagree with your opinions. The moderators of these lists
do not and have never removed any one from this list for expressing a
contrary opinion as long as you follow the Reflector guidelines.

I have always found it is more constructive to suggest or offer
solutions or enter into constructive discourse regarding things you feel
are lacking rather than just offering complaints.

Too late.. I did buy one hoping that it would be as good as all of the reviews
state.
Unfortunately.. I didn't realize the lack of facts and the large amount of
religion the user base has with these radios.
Excuses and attitude like this doesn't change the fact that the core design of the Flex
radio has serious NON fixable issues. "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DON'T BUY IT." My
five year old wouldn't even say that. But I see that's how it is with Flex and the user
base.
But then again, the religion that is "Flex" apparently doesn't realize that a commercial
product should do at least what a 25 year old "rice-box" would do w/o a week of fiddling
with, and without hiccups.
I've been working in industry with SDR's for 15 years.. and I'm disappointed at
best with the -1500 and the -5000 that the club has. I wish I would not have
bought it. I didn't play with the club's first and I should have.
If you guys want to remove me from the list go ahead. But all of my statements
and complaints are true and are really unacceptable at this price level.

Then don't buy one, Fred.

Windows is not a real time OS, never was supposed to be a real time OS and
never will be a real time OS. The real problem here is the core design of the
Flex radios and their reliance of Windows to be a real time OS, not the
multitude of hardware the system doesn't really work on.
I'll quit when I am still ahead, but after reading 25 messages like this on
this list I couldn't take it anymore.

Ralph,
That is pretty much what most have found also, Wireless drivers are just
not designed to accommodate the needs of a Real time device. Big reason is
that the wireless has so much overhead, waiting on access points to
respond, etc. Seems that all the wireless drivers seem to just sit and
wait for everything to clear, ever noticed when trying to connect to a
wireless, every thing will hang? Best way to make sure that the
wireless drivers are not running is to go to the Windows Device manager, to
the wireless NIC, right click and select Disable, then you are sure that
they are disabled and it's easy to enable it when you are ready to use the
wireless NIC.. Same with the Bluetooth. also some of the batteries are
also tied to the USB, and this can cause serious spikes also in the DPCs.
It's really hard for some to look at all this and a shame that we have to do
these kinds of tweaks, but today's consumer PCs/Laptops are just not setup
to run in a Real-Time mode, everything seems to be more interrupt based,
which the radio is going to send out data, whether the computer is ready
or not.. :-( ..
Sounds like you are getting to the bottom of your issues, not all computers
are laid out the same, as with the OS layout, particularly when it comes to
laptops..
