Please correct me if I am wrong...and I do not intend to be provocative, but
why the heck an ESSB profile? Maybe five or ten years ago when people spoke
of ESSB as though it were an entirely new form of modulation, there was room
for an ESSB profile. Now? I don't know why, given newer equipment and
better mikes, everyone's audio isn't adjusted for optimum fidelity within
reasonable bandwidth all the time. We can have DX profiles and contest
profiles, perhaps, but the rest of the time we all ought to be as ESSB-ish
as our equipment will allow us to be. Shouldn't we? Why is it something
special?

Granted one can hear plenty of distortion and splatter every hour of the
day, usually from the "over over" and "roger roger roger" bunch. The people
my beloved spouse refers to as the baseball-cap-and-pot-belly-crowd. But
the rest of us ought to be in ESSB mode all the time unless there is a very
clear and definite reason to do otherwise. Or am I wrong?

Honestly asking for information, here, not--repeat NOT--trying to ignite a
flame war.
