I think we have a mix up.
I installed the hotfix first. Didn't have any luck with it.

A couple weeks later, Weds., I updated drivers where it suggested I use the
Texas Instruments driver instead.
The new TI is the one that's working better for me.

Interesting, the Hotfix (the newer one) installs the same version you found
during your update driver..

Your 1394ohci.sys is version is 6.1.7600.20756 dated 7/16/2010 , correct ?

Yes. I already did this reg. fix when I tried use the hotfix. I didn't have
any luck with the hot fix.
This prior was to my finding the TI driver the other day.

Drax

There is a registry mod that needs to be made to fully the problem fixed by
this driver .. You may want to check it out.

Method 1 (manual): Modify the registry
Click Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_SYSTEM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\1394ohci\parameters
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type EnabletLabelBitmap, and then press ENTER.
Right-click EnabletLabelBitmap, and then click Modify.
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

I located another more recent Win 7 firewire related Hotfix dated 9/2010

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2261116 which addresses high speed
asynchronous data transfer problems

This one contains the version of Driver that Drax found. ( 6.1.7600.20756)

I ran some tests on this one using some tests I have to produce raspy audio
.

With the legacy driver vs non-legacy in the hot-fix, I noticed

Raspy audio still occurred in both , the new non-legacy it occurred less
often and less magnitude.

Interestingly, with the new non-legacy it appeared in some cases the raspy
audio corrected itself within a second or so .

Don’t try this at home, your mileage my vary, etc.

I’m going to try it for a while like Drax is and see how it goes.
