Spent the weekend playing in the CW contest. Many thanks to the gang at Flex for making this more fun than I've had in a long while.
First the basics: Radio is a 5000, computer is an AMD dual core 5600+ running XP SP3. Using N1MM to drive a K1EL keyer which in turn keys the 5000. As others have noted, they tend to run pretty fast CW during a contest, and the 5000 was totally up to it. Most operation was between 27 and 35 wpm, and the keying was absolutely flawless. Did not run the amp; just the 5000 at 100 watts. I was amazed at how easy it was to bust many of the pileups with this setup. A tip for others wanting to try CW contesting: Set the panadapter for 4X to really spread out the signals. Click tuning is now a breeze and with just a little practice, you can click on a signal on the panadapter and be within a few Hz of zero beat. Give your call and they are in the log. It's very much like shooting fish in a barrel ;o)) I am really looking forward now to the next RTTY contest. With the change in click tuning for the DIGI modes, click tuning should be a breeze there also. What a fantastic radio, and it's going to get even better in the future. With this latest software issue, it's getting very close to perfect in my book now. Congratulations gang. Ya'll done good!! 73, Army - AE5P _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
