I am not a CW operator so I asked a couple of friends with Flex’s to comment on their CW experience with 2.0.19
K6BK is a Flex “Newbie” but very experienced QRP CW operator… And very competent Electrical Engineer. See his observations below…. __________________________________________________________ Howard S. White Ph.D. P. Eng., VE3GFW/K6 ex-AE6SM KY6LA Website: www.ky6la.com<http://www.ky6la.com/> "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" "Ham Antennas Save Lives - Katrina, 2003 & 2007 San Diego Fires, 911" From: Loren 'Mitch' Mitchell K6BK I have the 1500 it on a dummy load, and so far I can't get any xmit output on CW. I see they got rid of the Xmit Blanking time for CW, now labeled Phone only. Break In seems to work, but of course the radio has never done FULL Break In. The Fwd Pwr meter does not indicate any output, and there is no panadapter indication of output during Tx.. There is a sidetone but that's all. And when I unkey from Mox or from Break In there is a huge spike at about 9.5 KHz lower than the Tx freq that makes a loud POP noise and then decays in a few seconds down to nothing. Disturbing to see and hear that... what looks like overload when going from Tx to Rx. That behavior is also present unkeying the mic on SSB mode... same nasty transient in the same place. Went back and tried ver 2.0.16 (had to uninstall 2.0.19 first) and the same awful Tx to Rx spike is there too. There was a firmware update that came with 2.0.19 that could not be rolled back.... don't know if that is related or not. But going back to 2.0.16 there was output on CW, on both the meter and the display. I have spent about 3 hours messing with the radio on the new software... no QSOs just a dummy load. And a few hours reading the reflectors looking for clues with no result. Now I reinstalled 2.0.19 and still no output on CW. I didn't post any questions because I really don't know what to ask... considering there was a "no CW output" problem with the versions before the 2.0 Beta, and many people would just told me I was a dummy for having the drive turned down to zero, or that the radio has no hardware for actually measuring the power output (the Fwd Pwr is a calculated number). With that problem it was the ASIO drivers, but I am not going thru all that undeserved "newbie" humiliation again. Even on SSB the Tx-Rx transient is nasty and I can't use it like that. Very tired of all this, so I will just set it all aside until the next software release, and meanwhile use the Icom 7600... which operates flawless FULL Break In, which I prefer anyway and is really necessary to hear what is going on for working DX. ________________________________ From: Dr. Howard S. White To: Loren 'Mitch' Mitchell K6BK Cc: Ron N6XT I have been hearing a lot of very positive comments on the vast improvements people are seeing on CW using PowerSDR v2.0.19 Since I am not a competent commenter on CW, I would appreciate it if you two guys would share your opinions and observations on the CW performance so I could report them to the Beta Testing Team. We are particularly concerned with the previous latency issue… Use Buffer at 512 and SR off….you should see dramatic improvements…and definitely lower CPU utilizations. __________________________________________________________ Howard S.
