So, the mirroring is a punishment for not pressing the PTT? :-) -----Original Message----- From: Tim Ellison [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2011 11:20 AM To: [email protected]; 'Jerry Flanders'; 'Eric Wachsmann' Cc: [email protected] Subject: RE: [FlexEdge] Possible Bug....
"Don't worry about the Panadapter display, the intent is to play back recorded audio over the air." Really not worried about it, but this is a bug - yes?. No it isn't a bug, per se. This is what PowerSDR does when it gets fed REAL audio rather than COMPLEX (I/Q) audio which is what it is expecting when you are not doing playback over the air (no PTT). -Tim -----Original Message----- From: Richard Clafton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2011 12:06 PM To: Tim Ellison; 'Jerry Flanders'; 'Eric Wachsmann' Cc: [email protected] Subject: RE: [FlexEdge] Possible Bug.... "To Playback over the air you first have to either press your PTT button or click on MOX, then the playback button is enabled." Ok, yeah, got that - not the real issue though - should not have mentioned it if I am honest. The main issue is with the Wave panel, for which the above rule does not apply. "Don't worry about the Panadapter display, the intent is to play back recorded audio over the air." Really not worried about it, but this is a bug - yes?. The pan stays MIRRORED if I happen to hit play, and forget (!) to hit the MOX or PTT. Then when the pan adapter is in the mirrored state I either have to restart PSDR or change to another band and back. Personally I will teach myself not to press play without the PTT in play, but just in case there are more idiots like me - perhaps the mirroring should be addressed - as a bug? -----Original Message----- From: Tim Ellison [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2011 10:40 AM To: [email protected]; 'Jerry Flanders'; 'Eric Wachsmann' Cc: [email protected] Subject: RE: [FlexEdge] Possible Bug.... Ok... It's more complicated than these simplistic answers, I guess it could be posed as a question, "How do I record and playback the audio of a station on the air?" We think I know the answer to this, http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50174.aspx?Keywords=record However following these instructions is when the problem shows and just to add a little more info into the mix when this mirroring happens we find some signals can only be demodulated during playback on the opposite sideband, i.e. if on 20 then you need to go to LSB and the other way round on 40. Record something - about 30 seconds or so on USB, then play back without transmitting and hit the LSB button. Problem is, when it's finished - mirrored pan. It also happens if you use the quick record/playback options in the wave form, I can't use the quick record/playback options on the console because the playback button just doesn't, record button is ok and the file is created but playback does nothing, not even highlighted as if selected. Quote: " Here is the deal. The record and play back controls on the console are designed for recording someone off the air and then playing it back to them over the air. " - that's great, but this makes the pan mirror! Yeah, the names are ambiguous. Here is the deal. The record and play back controls on the console are designed for recording someone off the air and then playing it back to them over the air. It records the audio as post processed (real audio - what you hear in the speakers). This is the same as the QUICK RECORD feature in the wave form. QUICK PLAY is feeding the real audio recording, made using the QUICK RECORD, as pre-processed (no processing by the DSP) so that it bypasses the DSP and is heard exactly as it was recorded. This is what the console play button does. By default when you use the WAVE form to record, audio is recorded pre-processed (I/Q or complex audio) which is opposite of the settings described above. This is the audio format that can be fed back into PowerSDR to simulate the reception of signals for demonstrating the capabilities of the radio, like at hamfests. -Tim -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jerry Flanders Sent: Friday, May 06, 2011 11:05 PM To: Eric Wachsmann; [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FlexEdge] Possible Bug.... Concerning this, I have never fully understood the two wave file control record options. One is labelled Record, the other is labelled Quick Rec. !. What is the difference? 2. Could we have more descriptive labels on this form - words that would be more suggestive of what will happen?
