Soooo... can anyone recommend:

a) A nice, light, portable, power supply that's known to work well with the
-1500? I see Astron has a RS-3A that weighs something like 4 pounds...
anyone use that? Anything lighter?

Well, I went digging through my Box of Wall Warts (I save them all) and ran
across a small brick (removable power cord) from DYE that is rated at
4A@12V. I get 4W out from my 1500 using this supply. I could not find any
new "wandering noise sources" when using this supply either.

BTW, if you are looking for small power supplies, I have had good luck with
MPJA Online. See:
I agree that Marlin Jones (MJPA) has a good selection of power supplies -- I've used them several times. I found a very good MJPA supply that has plenty of oomph to handle the 1500, even on transmit (+12V @ 6A, 2.9 lbs and $13):

I also used the +5VDC to power a couple of USB devices.

In addition, MJPA also shows some nice OEM supplies like http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=16001+PS (12V @ 3.5A, 1.1 lbs and $22.50). I also see a laptop-style (12V @ 5A, 0.8 lbs and $16) at http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=18599+PS -- looks nice!
