I found the source of my distortion.
It was an audio streaming artifact as described in the FlexRadio driver help.
Ultimately it was caused by the network driver in the PC.
I found it with help from Neal and Tim, by watching DPC Latency Checker (a downloaded software tool) and watching closely when the numbers rise; what was running. The presenting application was my email, but the underlying issue was the network adapter device. I found the device name and model on the PC and went to the Intel site, downloaded the latest driver program and ran it. Latency checker now reports no high numbers and I have no audio streaming artifacts.
Now we are all happy :-)

Phil,

I experience the same distortion problem on occasion with my F5K+Rx2+ATU+V/U
and PSDR v2.0.22. The problem has occurred on all bands and all modes.
Clicking the start/stop button always corrects it.

I run LatencyMon on a regular basis and it has never indicated a problem
when the distortion occurs. Highest DPC is usually between 177 and 210 us,
highest ISR is usually between 65 and 72 us. My computer is a Dell Studio
XPS 9000 with i7 CPU and 8 GB ram, running 64 bit Win7. CPU usage is
between 7% and 20% depending on what other programs are running.

I do not recall the distortion occurring prior to PSDR v2.0.

The distortion issue is annoying but since it is easily corrected, I have
not mentioned it previously, although it is nice to know that someone else
has experienced the same condition.

Sounds like a good plan, but the program says it only works on vista
and above. I'm using XP
This machine has been working fine for over two years.

Hi Phil

Sounds like DPCs to me! Google for a program called latencymon and
download it. Run it and when you hear the distortion, look at it and
see what the offending driver/program is.

One thing, if you have not disabled windows search you might be having
those kinds of issues.

Every now and then distortion creeps into the received audio.
stop/start always corrects it. CPU utilization is always around
     the 10% level.
     Reboot doesn't help.
     Any ideas?
