No, I would NOT buy a new car in the hope that sometime in the future there will be a software upgrade that makes the engine run properly.
But almost all of us buy software that is not done in the hope that it will work properly. A couple of notable examples are Windows 95, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 7, and numerous versions of Apples O.S. Millions of folks buy programs that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars that are essentially not finished. When was the last time you saw a program that came out that had ONLY version 1.0 and no more? I've seen quite a few AND they all are in the digital waste basket. Welcome to the world of computers. Luckily, they don't run my automobile. And neither does PowerSDR. And luckily they CAN be improved with software updates unlike my Yaesu FT-100D which will never be improved by Yaesu or anyone else without out opening the case and changing and/or adding parts and redesigning circuits completely. My Flex 1500 was well worth what I paid for it when it first arrived. It worked well in most ways and I was more than satisfied with it - and I am still more than satisfied with the Flex 1500 after all the improvements in the software. I suspect I would feel the same with any of the Flex radios IF I could afford one. And lastly, a bug in my Flex radio or a incomplete feature won't cause my XYL and myself to die in a crash or be in a hospital for months or be sued by an irate ham operator. Find another metaphor. ---Gary WB8ROL On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 3:16 AM, Mike <[email protected]> wrote: > Would you buy a new car in the hope that sometime in the future there will > be a software upgrade that makes the engine run properly? > > > On 21/09/11 01:40, pierce day wrote: > >> I've heard the espression "beating a dead horse" but this takes the cake. >> File this Q & A session under "failure to compute".
