Some of you who are subscribing to this reflector might be considering
buying a Flex radio and are wondering which PC to use. I purchased my Flex
5000 used and was fortunate to also get one of Neil Campbell’s custom built
PC’s in the deal. Neal disabled many of the services that Flex radios don’t
need, to optimize the Flex radio's performance. The end result is a very
responsive system, running mean and clean.

A few weeks ago I went to get on the air and discovered the PC was dead. I
suspected it was the power supply, and soon discovered that the power supply
was physically smaller than a standard PC supply. At 9:30 PM. I e-mailed
Neal to find out where I could get a replacement. Within 5 minutes I
received a response, along with an offer to have the case and power supply
updated, at a very reasonable cost. Considering I’d be traveling the next
week I decided to take him up on the offer. I also decided that this might
be a good time to upgrade the Flex 5000 and add the 2nd receiver.

Last Friday I got back from my trip and RX2 was sitting at the FedEx office
waiting for me. My PC came back from Neil today with a new case and power
supply. Since the form factor of the case was different he also swapped out
the fire wire card. Keep in mind that I didn’t originally purchase the PC
from Neil. Neil’s customer service (just like Flex Radio’s) is first rate.
His PC’s are reliable and really allow you to enjoy your Flex radio to its
full potential, and at a very reasonable cost. Any perspective Flex customer
should consider using one of his PC’s rather than bogging down your home PC.
These days people are very quick to complain, but seldom take the time to
give credit where it’s due. Neil deserves an “atta boy” on this one!

Now, I am thoroughly convinced that Neil and the support staff at Flex
really don't have a social life. It seems anytime you e-mail them, their
response is almost instantaneous. I've owned Kenwood's, Yaesu's as well as
many of the classics like Hammarlund and Swan. No other company came close.
Thanks to all, and guys you need to take some time off and enjoy life!!
