John Are you using the balanced Mic input (rear) or front Mic connector ? Have you tried another Mic ?

The audio is lacking and sounds like I am tx in lsb and listening in usb . The audio appears understandable through the monitor despite the above sounding problem . Are there any other settings I should look at other than suggested by Rob w1aex ? I am certainly missing something .
