I have been asked what antenna I am using and how far it is to the shack. As I have just moved to this QTH, I needed something to get on the air and not having a lot of spare time, I put up a DX-CC shortened dipole 80-10 that is in a G5rv configuration. The antenna is only about 30 feet away from the shack. The antenna is up 65 feet. I am not using any chokes on the feedline. That is my first addition. I will be rewiring my microphone per Dudley's suggestion and moving my microphone ground/sheild connection. The last step will to buy an artificial ground and run resonate counterpose wires and tune my RF ground. After that.....maybe move the antenna farther away from my shack. If none of that works.....buy another radio. LOL Thank you all for your suggestions. 73, Robert KB6QXM "Ham Radio Open Conversation" Yahoo group owner/moderator ----- Reply message ----- From: "Ken" <[email protected]> To: "Michael Alexander" <[email protected]>, "Robert Costa" <[email protected]> Subject: [FlexEdge] Suggestions Date: Sun, Dec 23, 2012 6:53 am Hello, I just wanted to pass this along in case it may help? I used a Flex5000 with a QRO DX-2500 amplifier running a pair of 4cx800's. I had RF all over the bands. Also my Radio room is in the basement. I have a french drain around the whole perimeter of the basement with a sub pump in the back middle where the french drain meets the sub pump. What I did was to place a 3 foot ground round into the french drain near the sub pump and attached a ground wire from the radio to the ground rod. The wire being about 30 feet long. I also place another ground rod in the french drain about 15 feet from the radio and connected another ground wire to it. After all of this I added several wires from the back of the 5000 being a 1/4 wave long for 12, 15, 17, and 20 meters and ran them along the wall and the french drain. I use a Condenser Tube Mic and an audio rack with the DX-2500 QRO amplifier, I have no more RF Issues. I don't know if this would help in anyone else's situation, but maybe it could lead to some other ideas to try? It would be nice to hear what you ended up with to prevent the RF when it is all said and done! I believe RF can be tamed if you continue to work it out. I never give up and I always find a way to resolve all issues. Some fixes may take longer then others, but that is just how it can be from time to time! I wish you well and wish you both a Merry Christmas. I found that the mic input seemed to by my biggest "entry point". I spoke to a number of people that couldn't use "pro" condenser mics for this reason. I reduced the mic input problem through chokes, grounding and attention to potential "pin 1" problems. I do have to say that my 5K was the most RFI-sensitive modern transceiver I ever used.
