I stopped worrying about this issue for a few weeks while I concentrated on learning other aspects of operating a Flex radio. Feeling more confident about general Flex operations, I returned to this issue a few days ago. After quite a bit of testing I determined that it seemed to happen only when totally away from the computer, never happened if I was using the PC for other things (but not transmitting) . I had checked USB port sleep issues but that did not solve anything. Finally the penny dropped and I checked power management settings in Windows 8.1 , I turned off all power management and the issue has been resolved ! Eugene from VAC has placed this issue on his "to do " list , to check what Windows power management settings does to VAC.
