This is by design (the 1/4 power). This is because with a 1/4 power carrier, 100% modulation brings it up to 4x power (100W for us). I don't think we have any AM specific documentation, but there is plenty of info on transmit procedures in general in our Operating Manual. If you need more specific questions answered, let us know.
