Hi gang, Yeah, I agree that Yahoo does cause many to feel uncomfortable, and I agree. One example of a very successful Yahoo group with many spin-off groups is the 5000 member strong HFPack HF Portable Group. Many volunteers manage these groups, and its a lot of work for them. Although many of us use some of the splinter yahoo groups, we all still identify with being HFpackers and continue to visit the main group religiously to get more news and info concerning events. Despite many spin-offs, the main group remains strong and enthusiastic.
So using the same analogy, the SDR-1000 Yahoo group should not be a threat to the main reflector and the forum. IMHO, it is the responsibility of us who belong to SDR1K Yahoo group to advise newbies to join the reflector and visit it regularly. Yes.. I know! I co-moderate the APRpack Yahoo HFpack spin-off and must visit nearly a dozen other groups to keep up. Newbies, and very enthusiastic owners should still be able to handle at least one daily reflector visit, and TeamSpeak file download every weekend. The SDR-1000 Yahoo group can be considered a proper place for Flex Radio Evangelism. Where else can owners be turned loose to gush about their favorite Software Defined Rig? Every one of us should be considered Flex Evangelists to spread the word on the air, and on the NET. The forum used to be my favorite place to read enthusiastic posts from new owners, and to hear how many had solved setup issues. Now all of the activity seems to have shifted to the reflector, so I dare not miss it. Even though the Yahoo SDR1K group is now formed, I will still continue to visit the reflector daily to see what's new. I think once hams become Flexers, they will always keep returning to the reflector and forums to stay current. Since the SDR-1000 is the rig that just Keeps Getting Better and Better, we would be crazy to stay away from the main web site. User driven changes and upgrades is what attracted many of us in the first place. I grew tired of owning a big box full of knobs that could never change. When I heard about beta preview 17 on the recorded TeamSpeak audio, guess where I immediately headed? 73, Ken WB6MLC
