Ah, but since Beta 14 the PowerSDR software has taken my CPU from 5% usage to 40%usage and it's been staying there since, I keep downloading from SVN and compiling hoping it will be fixed.

I have run FTP-Wisdom, and it helped, it took it from 95% to 40% but something is different, some of my lesser CPU's can't run the software any more without hiccups, they use to have none with Beta 12 and earlier.

I have a Dell GX280 with a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with 1 Gb of ram, not the fastest but not the slowest either.

All of the above information is with the panadapter set to AVG and the display rate set to 8 fps instead of 15 and the S-Meter turned off. If I turn off the display the CPU usage goes down a little bit to 30%, before that it would really take a dive when you turned it off.

I have not brought it up before because several others mentioned it, but I get the feeling that Flex-Radio is not aware of this problem, because I have not seen a solution.

I wish I could say that it's just peculiar to my main PC but it does the same on several PC's.

All this talk of motherboards, I would get something with extra gas in the tank.

The basic SDR DSP and audio run fine on a 533MHz machine. What you need the extra power for are (1) the graphical display (2) short buffers / low latency (3) the ability to run arbitrarily many, arbitrarily complex applications alongside the SDR.

In other words, you need very little CPU to run a receiver tuned to a single frequency all day long. What the extra power buys you is being able to do *other* stuff at the same time.

You need even less than that if you're running a half-duplex application like a PSK-31 program. Where the burps really show up is in sustaining full-duplex audio.

Yes, it definitely sounds like something is wrong. However that means that something *is* wrong. It says nothing about what resources are required when it's running *correctly*.
