The D44 does not have a mic preamp like the Firebox. You will get the best results using a mic preamp. You can play with the signal level input values in the D44 control panel to gee if that will get you some more gain.
When I was using the D44 with a Heil PR20 mic, I got the best results using W2IHYs EQplus or 8-Band EQ to provide the preamp function (I already had them in use with my Icom) along with some added audio chain processing. The EQ plus or the 8-Band output wired into the SDR1K using the Foster connector can provide PTT function as well with a remote switch (foot or hand). The added benefit of this setup is that I also use the audio chain with my Icom (backup rig) with just a twist of the rig selector switch on the EQplus or 8-Band EQ. -Tim --- Tim Ellison ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) Integrated Technical Services ( http://www.itsco.com ) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jerry Harley Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2006 8:29 PM To: FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Unable to get an acceptable Tx audio Compaq 2.4 EVO, New SDR1000, M-Audio D44, Hosa cables, Heil goldline/hc5, Yaesu/Heil cord. My best audio is at mic gain 50, but mic meter never reads better than 25. If i turn the mic gain to 55 I can get -22 but the transmit audio has a lot of ehco. With just key down,no audio I'm seeing 60db on the panadapter. Computer noise? How are people who connecting directly to the mic D44 doing push to talk?
