I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded to my questions.
I think at this point I am going to wait until a run of the UCB happens before I purchase a SDR-1000. Unfortunately, unless I can get a UCB or similar product the SDR-1000 is not going to work for my application. If any of the original list of pre-orderers backs out I'd be happy to take their place in line.
In anticipation of my future purchase I'm going to sell my D800 laptop and buy a FireBox, PowerMate and an external reference. I'll still be on the list hopefully absorbing everything I can about this great radio.
