Ah yes, sorry, I'd forgotten what you said about nearby strong  
signals. It happens just the same with the antenna disconnected and  
replaced by a 50 ohm terminator so I guess this can't be the  
explanation. But I will try what you suggest about injecting a strong  
signal and looking for clicks nearby.

In the meantime, I'm just about to order a better parallel cable and  
see if that fixes it.
