Joel, this may not be what you are getting, however, last night I
noticed if I set the "RF Gain" (AGC) too high, I would hear this fast
pop about every 4 seconds or so.  After messing with buffers and such,
I discovered I could reduce the max AGC and this would go away.  Is it
possible this is what you are getting?
