I have done similar "boosts" to Drake TR-7 solid state amps where the
160 and 10 meter bands have lower output. What I discovered is for the
most part the carrier does not increase that much. Most of the increase
in apparent power output was due to harmonics and garbage increasing
faster than the carrier. So, I don't do those things anymore. I
explain to folks that life is a little hairy around the edges. If they
want to have a $200 repair bill to replace finals then Yes, I can boost
the output a bit but they will never be able to tell the difference on
the air. And, they may be attracting the OO folks because of splatter,
harmonics and other wonderful things. They then tell me to leave it alone.

THE REASON FOR THE APPARENT POWER INCREASE IS THE WATTMETER IS BROADBAND
SO IT SUMS ALL THE ENERGY COMING OUT THE COAX.
