I believe the assumption here is that if you were bright enough to pass a General class ham radio license you can master turning on the power :-)
We have all done it. Me included. The incredibly low noise floor on the Panadapter is what gives it away for me. I have just gotten into the habit of leaving it turned on. It has better frequency stability that way since it is already warmed up. To offset the extra cost on the power bill, I switched to those fancy mercury vapor bulbs that use very little amperage and last for 10 years.
