Except for notebook computers and one ancient desktop that I bought
used, I haven't bought an off-the-shelf computer for 20 years, and I'm
not about to change my habits to enjoy my FLEX-5000 when it arrives.

My current shack computer is a 1GHz PIII on an Asus motherboard (the
only brand I've bought for the last 15 years). It already has a
P4-compatible power supply of adequate capacity, a PCI-bus Firewire card
(Adaptec, IIRC -- for capturing video from a digital camcorder), and a
PCI-bus multi-serial card. I have a spare ATI X300 PCI-Express video
card that I could use.

If I replace the mobo and CPU by an Asus M2N-E or M2N-SLI Deluxe (the
latter has Firewire on board but only one IDE connection) and an AMD AM2
dual-core CPU rated at 5000 or more, and install 2GB of RAM, does
anybody know of any problems I might face with PowerSDR and the rig? OK,
I know already that I'll have to reinstall WinXP from scratch and
convince some person in India that I'm not trying to cheat Micro$oft,
but other than that...?
