Chances are pretty good that the Flex is not presenting a low enough
resistance in the "on" state to satisfy the Alpha. Regardless of the
amplifier keying requirements, I really recommend the use of an external
amplifier keying interface, such as the excellent AmpKeyer.
(http://www.theheathkitshop.com/_ampkeyer.html ). It is very cheap insurance
against damaging something inside your Flex (or Icom or Yaesu or..). I have
one and use it to key my old Henry 2K. The AmpKeyer has both a relay contact
output and a Mosfet output, and it even provides a very convenient standby
switch to control the amp with.

Usual disclaimers apply. Just a very satisfied customer (both of the
Ampkeyer and the Flex 5000)

Subject: [Flexradio] Keying Alpha Amp

I have a friend with a Alpha 8100 amplifier. He is trying to get the SDR5000
to key the amp "on" using the "Switch Relay with TR" checked on "TX1". He
has the amp plugged into "(Red)". It does not key the amp. We can key the
amp with a meter with 10 milliamps draw. (voltage at this switch point is 12
volts) The SDR5000, when measured with an Ohm meter at the "Red" RCA jack,
changes state (on X10 scale) when the SDR MOX is keyed. ("TX1" checked)

Ideas?

Thanks, Dave , W9DR
