There are variations.  I believe there were receive-only and tx/rx versions.

The biggest issue is whether the SDR board stack is three boards or four
boards.  The original hardware had only three boards.  Due to some issues, a
fourth board, called an RFE board, was added.  It provided a Rx preamp, LP
filters, transverter tap-offs, and a better Tx 1/2W PA.  My SDR-1000 is only
a three-board stack for example.  I don't think the RFE is available from
Flex anymore.

Not all SDR-1000s have the Tx PA board either.

Plus, there have been several change orders to help improve the SDR-1000
operation.  Since these were optionally done, I'm not sure how you could
track them.  It might be best to ask any potential seller what mods or
changes have been made.
