Well Owen, in the same sense that the ATU and Byp controls are still there even if you do not have the antenna tuner; or the Mox button is still there if you have the receive-only version.
Besides, when version 2 comes out, there can be a screen customized for the SDR-1000. There will probably be plenty, once the user-interface and signal-processing are different software. I'm just glad that FRS has chosen to continue to have the software support the SDR-1000. I love mine.
