I would also suggest that those with distortion check to be sure that 
their 13.8VDC power supply is "stiff" enough. A simple test is to set a 
voltmeter to AC, crank up the sensitivity to be able to see mV signals 
(i.e. a 1 or 2 volt scale on a DVM), and put it across the power supply; 
an AC coupled scope is even better than a DVM.

Talk into the mike and see if you can see any modulation showing up on 
the power rail. A "soft" power supply could easily account for all the 
distortion reports.
