Now you guys! You're starting to get me excited...again. It was
N9DG who pointed me in the direction of software defined radio a couple
of years ago. I had never heard of it. Reading some early plans for
the Flex5000A I saw a reference to dual diversity reception as one of
the goals. That was enough and I immediately placed an order for this
stupendous rig and I now realize it was one of the smartest things I've
ever done. And that capability was the reason I had the XYL (now
general class ham---extra will have to wait until next winter) out
helping me put up the first beverage at only 1,500 ft. Yes, I do own
the beverage book and, yes, the feedline is grounded midway into the
shack from the termination box. I now have the Flex8000 (3000 plus
5000) and no regrets have appeared yet. But then I only use three
displays---two 22 and one 32 and actually have never given "four or
more" a thought! But if someone says one more time that the visual
aspect of SDR is unimportant he had better check who is ringing his
door bell to make sure it isn't me because the quality of the video
interface is terribly important if we expect Flex Radio to thrive and
survive and I might be there with a piece of 2 x 4 with 20d nail
protruding to give emphasis when I bat him on the ear!
