The human interface to SDR is a legitimate discussion and it gives those of
us who don't know about DFTs, QSDs, ADCs something to talk about. So, please
endure our comments.

In fact, for you Mouse Only Purists (MOPs) how many of you are using a mouse
with no buttons? If you are using a Mac you have one analog switch on your
SDR. If you are using a PC, you have two analog switches on your SDR. If
you are using a mouse with a wheel...guess what...you have a knob on your
SDR. It may not be on the front of a box, but you are using a knob to
control your radio.

Although I a right-handed, I have actually taught myself how to use the
mouse left handed so I can keep my right hand free for holding a pen, using
the paddles, etc. But, I have to say, using SDR without SOME knobs or
buttons is like trying to enjoy a juicy, tender steak dinner with one hand
tied behind your back.

During a traffic net, a contest, a pileup or whatever, it is (for me...I'm
not speaking for everyone here) highly productive and efficient to just
reach up without having to take my eyes of something else and turn the
volume up or down, tweak the frequency, jiggle the band pass with a knob.
That doesn't make me a Knob Only Dinosaur (KOD).

I think one of the beauties of SDR is to allow for a variety of interfaces,
some on screen, some analog, some hybrid. Everybody can be a winner.

So, for you guys who understand DFTs, QSDs, ADCs, please help us capitalize
on ALL the strengths of SDR. Please don't look down on us.

Cheers,
Frank N1UW
