I just did a fresh install of Win 7 64 bit two weeks ago, on my radio computer.
Everything works hunky dory.
I did get a new "signed drivers" copy of VAC. There was no additional fee to
ugrade from my previous VAC to the signed driver VAC.
It took me several days to reinstall and re-configure all the programs
(including Win 7), but it was fun.
Here's a hint: Since this was a re-formated fresh install, I backed up /copied all the
original program zip file downloads, and all my documents files. I forgot to copy my
logbook, which was not in my documents files. It was painful to rebuild this. Don't
forget "outlier" files when you backup.

Subject: Re: [Flexradio] OT: Upgrading to Win7?
Gents,
I like Windows 7. I have on my personal business computer. My radio
computer still has XP pro, but I'm going to be upgrading radio computer in
near future. I have all the components and I'm ready to roll.
I know at one time the conventional wisdom was to stick with XP for flex
use. Is this still the case?
I'm thinking of loading Windows 7 (32 bit home premium with 4 gig of ram.)
What say you computer gurus?
Is this a safe move at this time.
Second Question: Any advantage (or disadvantage) to going with 64 bit?
Your input is appreciated.
Thanks es 73

You have to do a clean install as there is no upgrade path from XP to Win7.
As far as the other Win7 questions, try this web page

For someone using Win7 on a
small network (< 10 devices) what are the pros and cons of Windows 7
Home Premium vs. Windows 7 Professional? Any problems with Home Premium
sharing files with Linux machines, etc.?
I have one Win 7 Professional machine at present and it works with
everything else I own. Just wondering what I give up with Home Premium.
Do the usual tricks work for doing a clean install vs. an upgrade? The
other Windows machines are all Win XP Pro.

Hi guys
If you have been thinking of upgrading to Windows 7, Microsoft is
planning to repeat its "Family Pack" promotion where you get 3
licenses of Windows 7 for $150 (which is half the OEM price).

A suggestion:
For cheap insurance, buy a new hard drive to install the new OS. Then,
install the old hard drive as a second drive. Drives are cheap these
days, less than $100 for a good-sized drive. That way, if you forget to
backup something, it's still there. Plus, on newer computers, you can
still boot from the old drive at power-up. Oh, and don't forget to put
a Linux partition on the new drive while you are at it (h hi).
