Greetings All,
As a professional RF and radio systems design engineer for 31 years, and
currently chief engineer in charge of one of the largest and most complex RF
systems in the world, I would like to provide an important perspective given
the
recent chatter here on the reflector.
I have met the folks at FlexRadio many times, engaged them in lengthy technical
and business discussions, and I can assure you that they are some of the very
best technical professionals (hardware and software!) in the industry, hand
down! Customer satisfaction and service is truly held dear in their hearts. I
have never met a more conscientious bunch of sincere people.
In the DOD industry the long held "standard" rate of good tested software code
output per person is 2 lines of code per man per day. Really!
FlexRadio does so much better than this. Yeah, they are not 100% perfect,
however they blow the doors off of the big companies and their slow and
inefficient software output. And believe me, the big companies have some awful
bug ridden software out there, sold at a high prices into critical
applications,
and the resulting system crashes are spectacular. I have routinely seen way
worse software/hardware performance than FlexRadio has ever been.
Software experts in my company are truly amazed that FlexRadio has even
attempted to do a real time software defined radio on a Windows PC platform,
where most would dare not go! And of course PowerSDR does indeed work very
well
on this platform where the Amateur market must be. Flexradio has accomplished
something huge that we all take for granted now.
My Flex5000 is one of the best radio transceivers I have ever used, and I have
had absolutely no trouble with it or the software over 3 + years.
We do use a Flex3000 in a professional application with great success, again
with incredible results and absolutely no problems!
For the cost of the FlexRadio product line the company is providing a level of
performance that is an incredible value by any measure.
And all future PowerSDR software versions are provided Free forever! Bravo
Flex
radio!
Recently Flex has pushed the envelope to get more product and software out
there. They have clearly taken some risk for a small company and we all have
benefited greatly. Some will have a bad experience, and not get things to work
after some struggles. This is rare, and with some normal human respect and
politeness, FlexRadio will take care of you even if they take a loss supporting
you. What more can one want? We all expect perfection 100% of the time.
Patience my friends patience.
And most important, Tim, W4TME, is a volunteer and one of the best and most
prompt technical support persons I have seen in the industry. I have great
respect for Tim and his knowledge, and his character is impeccable!
Flames and criticism come easy and travel quickly. Well deserved compliments
and sincere Thank You's do not come so easy.
Thank You Gerald and the FlexRadio team. From my position in the professional
RF system engineering industry you folks are an A+, no question about it. And
Thank You Tim for your fine example of a superior technical moderator. Well
done!
Congratulations FlexRadio! Please keep up the great work!
And by the way, I can't wait to get my Flex1500. What a beauty!
