I run the Alpha 8410 with the Flex 5000A and I am experiencing the same
problem. I have to run in DX mode to get the consistant drive for my amp.
Monitor with a Byrd 43 peak reading meter and the internal processor hooked
up to Hyperterm (in the 8410 shows power out and other diagnostics). I have
ron my previous SDR 1000 with my Quadra never had this problem. Saw the
post about moving the program chain around hope Flex can come up with a fix.
Too nice a amp to give it up. I do not have a problem with my tentec
Centurion 422 since it could take 125 watts drive with no problem. High tech
radio has to run a low tech amp. Not what I expected.

Subject: [Flexradio] SSB Output Spikes/Overshoot

Has anyone else with an amp with fast LED metering (like my Acom 2000a)
noticed
that in SSB mode there are momentary spikes of very high power output, even
when
the "average" power output appears to be in the 700 watt level ? Unlike my
other transceivers that drive the amp to relatively constant power output,
the
Flex 5000A appears to have these momentary spikes in output power. I have
carefully adjusted the peak values in the EQ, Mic, Leveler, and ALC stages
to
less than 0 dB on peaks.

These spikes in output power occur with or without the DX button engaged.

Any ideas?
