I've been using a Windows XP Pro machine in the shack, custom built around a
Foxconn A690GM2MA motherboard with the AMD 690G chipset. The machine is
running slow down, with a noticeable lag for the desktop icons to "refresh"
when programs are minimized and maximized.
The Flex 1500 with PowerSDR seems to run fine once started, but launching
new programs can be slow. After trying the usual fixes of defragging,
removing start-up applications, and cleaning up the registry, I can't seem
to make a significant improvement in performance. So I'm looking to upgrade
the shack computer and install a new one.
The computer has to do multiple duty. In addition to running the Flex 1500,
it will be the primary computer for logging, web browsing, recording audio,
voice keyer, controlling digital interfaces for WSJT, etc. I'd like to get
the maximum performance I can for about $600-$750 dollars. Budget won't
allow more than that.
I'd appreciate receiving recommendations. You can e-mail me privately if you
wish to reduce bandwidth on this great list. [email protected]
Thanks in advance and 73!
