For high-end laptops with integrated Firewire, you might want to check
out these guys:

I use them for all my high-end desktops. A small outfit with great
service, much like Flex. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay
for. Firewire is still critical in the video editing industry, at least
for several more years.
NVIDIA graphics options only (to take advantage of Adobe's accelerated
graphics playback).
At some point I will get a laptop to use in the field with my Flex 3000.
It will be from ADK.

Amen. Unless you buy a Mac.
I gave up and build a quad-core Athlon with lots of memory. Not Too
Expensive, but not very portable, either.
What we need is another good argument about a USB3 FlexRadio!
(Really, group, I'm just kidding!)

Hi all
I continue to monitor the laptop market looking for a reliable, not-junked
out package that either has express card slots or a VIA or TI inbuilt 1394
chipset.
It appears that even the high-end laptop market is forsaking express card
for some reason. I am still seeing high-end laptops that have inbuilt 1394
controllers but most of them use JMicron chips. For our usage, JMicron is
only marginally a better 1394 controller than one made out of peanut
butter!
As we have oft stated, this is just not the right vehicle to hitch your
radio upon in a general sense. If you find something that does work, be
prepared for a 2-year refreshment where you look for a replacement!
