Hi Guys please be aware that the NEW Heil "GOLD Elite" Microphone which uses
the HC5.1 Element has very low Audio output, it will take twice as much
Audio gain as the Wide Element installed in the same MIC. The HC-5 Element
in the older "Gold Line GM-5" MIC takes the same as the WIDE Element.
My settings are as follows
Gold Elite Wide Element Flex MIC gain 13
Narrow HC5.1 Element Flex MIC gain 26
Gold Line GM-5 Wide Element Flex MIC gain 13
Narrow HC5 Element Flex MIC gain 13
This is not a FLEX issue, the Gain on a Elecraft K3 is 30 for the WIDE
Element and you have to MAX out the radio's MIC Drive to 60 to get about 80%
of the ALC range with the HC-5.1 (narrow position).
I returned my MIC which I had to pay the shipping both ways to have
installed a HC-5 Element in the brand new MIC.
Talking to Tech support at Heil they said that this is the way the new "Gold
Elite" MIC is so it was not a problem with a bad HC5.1 element.
I REALLY HOPE Heil comes out with a Higher gain Element then the HC-5.1 for
a otherwise really beautiful MIC.
This would not be a real problem if the "Gold Elite" didn't have both
elements installed with a toggle switch to change between them but then you
have to change the MIC Gain settings or change to another TX Profile every
time I want to change the MIC Element which I do A LOT when I'm contesting,
which is to inconvenient for me.
73's and hope this helps someone make the right MIC choice if there looking
at buying a new MIC.
