Ken,

The FLEX-1500 was specifically engineered to mitigate RF and noise on the USB connection; the RF and USB are physically separated as much as possible, we use common mode ferrite chokes on the USB interface to remove any RF signals riding in on the USB cable and the USB cable supplied with the FLEX-1500 has a full metal shield around the RX and TX wire pairs whereas most USB cables do not. The only thing getting through the USB connector is the USB signals themselves.

What little USB "noise" there is, is more likely generated by the USB chip (clock) inside the 1500 and is not in any of the ham bands, rather than stuff coming in via the cable, so signal quality is unlikely to improve with the additional cable treatments like "galvanic isolation".

I see that Heros Technology sells a USB Galvanic Digital Isolator for SDR radios. It provides isolation in the USB connection between the computer and the transceiver and prevents "computer noise" from entering the 1500. So, a few questions:

1. Do we know if the Flex-1500 already has this kind of protection built in? 2. Has anyone on the list found noise on their 1500 that they determined was entering through the USB port?

Thanks for any advice!
