Jim, You may have noticed that this forum has whittled down considerately. Perhaps, you noticed that many former users just come to this forum to see what the newbies are asking. The other community is mainly for the new radio users. What is being posted here was answer previously; but the new Flexers don't know that. What it boils down to is; in a simple answer. Read the manual first. Practically all the symptoms that you are getting has been address and resolved. Yes, FRS promised a few things that did not come to be but, in my book they batted better than 95% in delivering a darn good rig. That out performed all the rice boxes out of Japan etc... with their high selling price and no updates. What you bought then will continue to be the same for the rest of that gear life. Flex radios outperformed them: We were getting a new radio every so many months with their software upgrade.
